Félicien Cattier

Félicien Cattier (born March  4, 1869 in Cuesmes near Mons , †  February 4, 1946 in Funchal , Madeira ) was a Belgian lawyer .

From 1906 he worked as a full professor for public law , in particular colonial law , at the Université libre de Bruxelles and from 1909 to 1911 as dean of its law faculty. In addition, he acted as vice governor of the Société générale de Belgique and from 1932 to 1939 as president and 1944 as acting president of the board of directors of Union minière du Haut Katanga , a state mining company in what was then the colony of Belgian Congo . In his book "Étude sur la situation de l'État indépendant du Congo", published in 1906, he critically examined the colonial practice of Belgium in the Congo, after he published it in an 1895 in the magazine Revue de Droit International et de Legislation Comparée under the Title "L'État indépendant du Congo et les indigènes" had still defended the article.

From 1945 Félicien Cattier was a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts of Belgium . After him, especially in the area of today's DRC occurring mineral cattierite named.
