Sunny Skylar
Sunny Skylar (born October 11, 1913 in Brooklyn , New York , † February 2, 2009 in Las Vegas ; actually Selig Shaftel ) was an American singer, composer, songwriter and music publisher .
life and work
Sunny Skylar, born as the son of Russian immigrants in New York, began his career as a singer in the big band era with the orchestras of Ben Bernie , Paul Whiteman , Abe Lyman and Vincent Lopez and performed regularly on smaller ones until the 1950s Club stages in New York and Las Vegas.
From the 1940s he also worked increasingly as a composer and songwriter in the tradition of Tin Pan Alley and wrote over 300 songs, including the hits All the Time (1946), Gotta Be This or That (1946) and Hair of Gold, Eyes of Blue (1948). At times Skylar also worked in film, for example for Carnival in Costa Rica (1947) with Dick Haymes . Skylar wrote It All Came True and You'll Always Be the One I Love for Frank Sinatra in 1947 . Skylar's composition Don't Wait Too Long , which Tony Bennett presented in 1963, Sinatra recorded with Gordon Jenkins in 1965 for his album September of My Years .
He has translated many songs from Spanish and Italian ; His English versions of Gabriel Ruiz ' Amor , Consuelo Velázquez ' Besame Mucho , Agustín Laras Noche de Ronde ( Be Mine Tonight ) and Ruggiero Leoncavallos Mattinata ( You're Breaking My Heart ), with Vic Damone 1949, had particular success in the 1940s topped the US Billboard charts .
