Guide of the torpedo boats
Führer der Torpedoboote (FdT) was an agency of the Imperial Navy , the Reichsmarine and the Kriegsmarine .
history
Imperial Navy
The service position was first established when the deep-sea fleet was organized in 1907. There was now the 1st and 2nd FdT. During the First World War, the 1st FdT was responsible for the torpedo boats added to the battle fleet , and the 2nd FdT for the torpedo boats of the reconnaissance forces. There was also one FdT in the Baltic Sea and one in Flanders . After the end of the war, the service of the FdT was abolished in 1919.
Reich and Kriegsmarine
The office was re-established in Świnoujście in October 1933 for the Reich and the navy that arose from it . It was formed from the disbanded commands of the previous I. and II. Torpedo boat flotilla. The torpedo boats, destroyers and speedboats were subordinate to the leader of the torpedo boats .
In November 1939, the staff of the FdT was subordinated to the new leader of the destroyers (FdZ) and at the same time a new FdT staff was set up, which was now only responsible for the torpedo boats and speedboats.
With effect from April 19, 1942, the FdT office was dissolved. The torpedo boats came under the responsibility of the leader of the destroyer, and the speed boats were subordinated to the newly created leader of the speed boats (FdS).
The FdT itself was subordinate to the commander of the reconnaissance forces (BdA) until July 31, 1940 , then directly to the fleet command .
