Friedrich Facius
Friedrich Facius (born August 17, 1907 in Winzlar ; † February 10, 1983 in Mannheim ) was a German archivist and Thuringian regional historian .
Life
Facius came from a Thuringian farming family attested to since the 17th century. After graduating from high school, from 1927 he studied history , German and Latin in Heidelberg , Berlin and Jena . With a doctorate in Willy Andreas doctorate he became Dr. phil. In 1933 he started the preparatory service for the archives career in the State Archives Weimar . Since it was founded by Armin Tille , the Thuringian archive administration has trained its legal clerks themselves. Facius was nominally a member of the Main State Archives in Weimar until 1947, although he - suspicious of the conditions there from the start - did not take up the service after returning from the Second World War , but stayed in Mannheim.
From 1935 on, he headed the Altenburg State Archive from Weimar as archivist , with whose archivist Walter Grünert he was lifelong friends. In 1939 he became a state archivist. In the post-war period in Germany, he moved from Weimar to Mannheim, where his family followed him in 1948. From 1952 to 1961 he was at the newly founded Federal Archives Koblenz , then first State Archives Councilor at the branch of the Main State Archives Stuttgart in Ludwigsburg . There he became senior state archivist in 1962. The last stop in his professional life was Freiburg im Breisgau . As archive director from 1967 to 1972 he continued the development of the Freiburg branch of the General State Archive in Karlsruhe , responsible for southern Baden , after Karl Wellmer had died.
The father's occupation aroused Facius' scientific interest in gardens and parks of the Baroque , especially in Altenburg and Wilhelmsthal . By carefully studying the sources , he refuted the fact that Napoleon Bonaparte organized a hare hunt on the battlefield of Jena and Auerstedt in 1808 .
His estate is in the General State Archives in Karlsruhe.
