The Pückler Society e. V. Berlin is an interest group of art and garden historians and gardeners for the research and preservation of historical gardens . It is named after the writer, world traveler and landscape architect Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and was founded in 1979 as a re-establishment of the former Fürst-Pückler Society .

Prince Pückler Society (1930–1945)

On September 27, 1930 , the Fürst-Pückler Society was founded in Muskau by Adolf von Arnim and August von Pückler , descendants of Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, which existed until 1945. Other founding members were Erich Maurer , Director of the Horticultural School and Research Institute , Berlin-Dahlem , Georg Potente , Garden Director of Sanssouci , Fritz Zahn , Garden Director of the Berlin-Dahlem School and Research Institute, and the landscape architect Hinrich Meyer-Jungclaussen (1888– 1970). Correspondence members were Werner Lindner and Heinrich Sohnrey , the committee included Franz Hallbaum , editor of the journal Die Gartenkunst , and Walther Schoenichen . Other functionaries were Ernst Gall (Vice Chairman Berlin), Hans Huth (Secretary Berlin) and Paul Schultze-Naumburg (Member of the Board of Thuringia).

Hinrich Meyer-Jungclaussen was secretary from 1930 to 1935 and, among other things, dealt with the integration of roads and other structures into the landscape in his pamphlets for society. In 1935 Paul Ortwin Rave became secretary, he is seen as the “spiritual driving force” of society. The society sponsored work in the field of the description of historical landscape gardens and modern landscape design, including the research of Gerhard Hinz on Peter Joseph Lenné .

From 1931 to 1939 the society published the announcements of the Fürst-Pückler-Gesellschaft in Verlag Verlag J. Neumann in Neudamm .

Dieter Hennebo counted the work of the Fürst-Pückler-Gesellschaft “to the most important garden monument maintenance and garden historical activities of these years” .

Chairperson

Pückler Society (from 1979)

On November 11, 1979, the Pückler Society was re-established in the Red Hall of Glienicke Castle by the archaeologist Hans B. Jessen , the art historian and castle director Martin Sperlich , the garden historian Michael Seiler , the garden historian Folkwin Wendland , the regional historian Hans-Werner Klünner , the judge Bogumil Maetzel, the Glienicker castellan Alfred Gobert and the editor of the Zehlendorfer Chronik Alois Müller. The word prince in the name of the company was deliberately omitted. Hans B. Jessen, who suggested the foundation, was elected chairman. The company has its seat in Schloss Glienicke and has the legal form of a registered association .

From 1981 the messages of the Pückler Society ( ISSN  1861-8022 ) appear again, which are supplemented by the addition of new series to distinguish them from the earlier messages . In addition, other newsletters, books and garden plans are published in loose succession. At the suggestion of Advisory Board member Clemens Alexander Wimmer , a bibliography on garden history and garden monument preservation will be made available online from 2007.
