Detlef Heikamp

Detlef Heikamp (born November 10, 1927 in Bremen ) is a German art historian and expert on the Italian Renaissance and Mannerism , including in particular sculpture and the arts and crafts . Until his retirement he was a professor at the Technical University of Berlin and has lived in Florence ever since.

Life

Detlef Heikamp studied art history, archeology and German literature in Kiel, Munich, Florence, Hamburg and Cologne. In 1956 he received his doctorate from Hans Kauffmann on Alessandro Allori . Between 1956 and 1959 he carried out research in Florence with a grant from the DFG, after which he took up an internship at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum . From 1960 he worked at Harvard University as an insctructor , then (until 1964) as an assistant professor . After a one-year scholarship at Villa I Tatti , he became a private lecturer at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität in Würzburg in 1967, before being appointed to the TU Berlin in 1969, where he retired in 1990.

Heikamp's numerous international awards include a scholarship from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (winter 1976/1977), appointment to the Socio of the Accademia del Disegno in Florence (1978), an invitation as a museum scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles (2007 ) and the Premio Internazionale "Prof. Luigi Tartufari" of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome (2013). Detlef Heikamp is also an associate member of the Art History Institute in Florence.
