Adolf Friedrich Heinrich Graf von Arnim-Muskau (born March 31, 1875 in Berlin , † April 30, 1931 in Bühlerhöhe ) was a German sports functionary and registrar of Muskau .

Life

Von Arnim was the son of Georg Werner von Arnim (1845–1881) and Caroline, b. Countess von Bismarck-Bohlen (born March 31, 1851 - † October 12, 1912). After the death of her husband in 1881, his mother had married her brother-in-law, the member of the Reichstag and owner of the Free State of Muskau in Upper Lusatia , Traugott Hermann Graf von Arnim (1839-1919).

He studied law in Heidelberg , Halle and Berlin. In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia in 1895 . He took part in the First World War as an officer in a cavalry regiment.

After the death of his stepfather, Adolf von Arnim succeeded him in 1919 in possession of the Muskau estate, which he managed and managed successfully until his death despite political and economic difficulties.

In addition to managing his inherited property, he devoted himself to breeding horses and had his own racing stable . He played golf and built a 9-hole course in the castle park. He also worked as an official sports functionary; From 1913 to 1919 he was a member of the International Olympic Committee , President of the Union Club from 1923 to 1931 and of the Automobile Club of Germany and the Berlin Racing Club from 1926 to 1931. He was also President of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences from 1923 to 1928 . According to English newspapers, he was considered the first gentleman in Prussia.

He died in the Bühlerhöhe sanatorium . He was with the writer Sophie von Arnim , geb. Countess and Noble Mistress zur Lippe-Weißenfeld (1876–1949) married and left a daughter and three sons, of whom the eldest Hermann (1903–1997) inherited the rulership of Muskau and farmed it until it was expropriated in 1945.
