Franz Armin Tille (born February 26, 1870 in Lauenstein ; † April 14, 1941 in Beuel ) was a German archivist , librarian and historian. His older brother was the Germanist, philosopher and functionary of business associations Alexander Tille .

Life

In 1907 Armin Tille became librarian in the state parliament of the Kingdom of Saxony in Dresden , in 1910 head of the secret main and state archives in Weimar and in the Weimar Republic the organizer of the state archives in Thuringia that came into being after 1920. From 1926 to 1934 he was director of the Thuringian State Archives. His successor as head of today's Thuringian Main State Archives was Willy Flach in 1934 .

Together with the Leipzig history professor Erich Brandenburg , the lawyer Dr. Hans Breymann and the businessman Arthur Dimpfel, he was involved in the establishment of the Central Office for German Personal and Family History in 1904 . In addition to his genealogical interests, Tille represented social Darwinist positions and later saw himself as a pioneer of National Socialism . In his function as director of the Thuringian State Archives, he welcomed the considerations on "rendering inferior people sterile" in a letter to the State Ministry on May 3, 1933. As a group of people for compulsory sterilization , he named convicts, auxiliary students, “mentally inferior”, deaf-mute, blind-born, vagrants and also “any mixed race in which one of the parents was colored (namely negroes)”. He pointed out the importance of support from genealogists as well as the use of archival sources. Tille advised that "the need to socially exclude the inferior should always be publicly emphasized, but the measures taken for this purpose should be discussed as little publicly as possible". In the following years he published articles such as B. Blood and soil as the basis of the national community (1933), the expulsion of Jews was not cheap (1936) and the origin of the term "National Socialism" (1938).
