The Füllbachtalbrücke is a 161 m long bridge on Autobahn 73 at km 56.7.

The structure is located west of Ebersdorf bei Coburg between the motorway junctions Rödental and Ebersdorf bei Coburg. At a height of a maximum of 14 m with five bridge fields , it spans a communal road between Buscheller and Friesendorf , the electrified Coburg-Lichtenfels railway , the Füllbach - a tributary of the Itz - and the communal road from Zeickhorn to Friesendorf. The bridge has transparent noise barriers on both sidesfitted. The flyover with two separate superstructures was built between 2005 and 2007 at a cost of around four million euros.

Foundation and substructures

Formwork pile head foundation

The abutments and pillars are based on large bored piles with a diameter of 1.2 m. Four piles were arranged under the pile head plate for one support. The octagonal pillars with a maximum height of 10 m have a full reinforced concrete cross-section with a width of 1.6 m. The pier heads are widened in the shape of a trumpet to accommodate the bearings and any presses.

Superstructures

Tendons of a longitudinal girder

The two adjacent superstructures of the prestressed concrete bridge have the continuous beam as a structural system in the longitudinal direction . They have a two- web T -beam cross- section with a beam spacing of 7.5 m and a constant construction height of 1.9 m. The longitudinal preload consists of internal tendons . The superstructure has cross members in the bearing axes. The spans for the five-span bridge are 29.5 m for the two peripheral fields and 34.0 m for the three inner fields.

Construction work

Construction began in November 2005.

First, preliminary work was required. For example, the Füllbach, which rises nearby and crosses a municipal road and the railway line, was provisionally piped in the section where it crosses the abutment backfill. In addition, the feed line for the overhead line of the railway line was laid as an underground cable in the section under the bridge and the associated contact line masts were replaced.

Subsequently, from December 2005, the deep foundation was created with a pile drilling machine. It started with the piles on the northern side of the bridge near the railway line. The pile head foundations with the connecting reinforcement for the columns or abutment walls were then concreted onto the reinforced piles.

In the next step, the up to nine meter high abutment walls were constructed, first on the northern abutment, then on the southern abutment. At the same time, the columns were concreted in one pour.

The two superstructures were each constructed in two sections on a fixed supporting structure. First, this was done in parallel for both superstructures, in an elevated position because of the overhead line, for the section with a length of about 40 m above the railway line. A line closure was necessary for the installation and removal of the main girders. Then the rest of the western superstructure and then the eastern superstructure were concreted. For this purpose, 1200 m³ of concrete had to be paved with four truck- mounted concrete pumps within twelve hours . The last superstructure section was completed in mid-December 2006.

In 2007, a new culvert was made for the Füllbach under the railway embankment, to the west of the motorway bridge.
