Five-hoofed pond

The five-hoofed pond, around four hectares in size, is located between Ottendorf-Okrilla , Lomnitz , Wachau and Seifersdorf in Saxony . It is located on the river Orla and its tributary Saugraben .

General

The name suggests five agricultural goods, so-called hooves , which used to adjoin the pond. In the Topographical Atlas of the Kingdom of Saxony (1841–1843) by Jacob AH Oberreit, the adjacent forest is recorded as the 5 hooves . The Lausitzer Schlange long-distance hiking trail runs past the pond . The Fünfhufenteich is a designated area natural monument.

nature

The five-hoofed pond is part of the European nature reserve Natura 2000 (belonging to the FFH -protected area running water system Kleine Röder and Orla ) and is therefore subject to strict nature conservation regulations.

Around the pond there are some species-rich fresh meadows (FFH habitat type flatland hay meadows ), some of which are used as pasture areas. The bank areas are densely overgrown with reeds in places . The common worm fern can also be found on the bank. Numerous deciduous tree species grow around the five-hoofed pond, for example common oak , birch , hornbeam , black alder , sycamore maple , norway maple , red oak and ash . In some cases, the oaks in particular reach trunk diameters of over 1.50 meters and considerable heights.

The coneflower , which can be classified as a neophyte, grows at the inlet of the five-hoofed pond .

The Fünfhufenteich is a body of water owned by the German Anglers' Association and is mainly used to keep carp. Fishing is prohibited. The otter at the five-hoofed pond could be identified by the discovery of step seals . The wood mouse can be found in the undergrowth around the pond . Water frogs and various dragonflies are native in and around the pond.

Sand pond

The sand pond, which is about 500 meters away, is also leased by the German Anglers' Association. In the lake used as rearing water, both fishing and swimming is prohibited. The sand pond is also surrounded by oak, birch, ash and other deciduous trees. The forest lady fern grows in the bank area .
