Fifth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition

The Norwegian Antarctic Expedition 1970–1971 (NorAE 1970–1971) was a research trip to the Antarctic funded by the Norwegian Polar Institute . The six-person expedition team led by geologist Thore Schanke Winsnes (* 1922) continued the work of the Antarctic expedition from 1968 to 1969, also led by Winsnes .

The goals of the expedition were biological , geological and meteorological investigations in Sverdrupfjella and on the Jutulstraumen glacier in western Queen Maud Land . The participants received logistical support from the United States Navy .
