History and description
The Finkeissen house was built in 1955 according to plans by the architect and client Ludwig Finkeissen . The style of the building erected at the dominant point belongs to post-war modernism .
Typical details are:
- concave shaped perforated facade
- "Flying" roof protruding slightly to the north over the building corners
- Emphasis on the central axis and the building edges through balconies on extremely thin slabs
- the decorative pushed to the edges of buildings balconies are of round, slender columns penetrated and filigree railings with curved struts surrounded
- a recessed, generously glazed ground floor zone
- multicolored, ornamental sgraffiti work in the parapet fields of the windows and as a structured cornice-like band below the eaves
Today the building houses a restaurant ( Wilhelminenhof ) and apartments.
Monument protection
The Finkeissen house is a typical example of post-war modernism in Darmstadt in the 1950s . For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
