The Norwegian Antarctic Expedition 1974–1975 (NorAE 1974–1975) was a research trip to the Antarctic funded by the Norwegian Polar Institute . The four-person expedition team led by geologist Thore Schanke Winsnes (* 1922) carried out geological and glaciological investigations in the Ellsworth Mountains south of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . The United States Navy supported them logistically .
