Golden era

FC Espanya made their debut in the Catalan championship in the 1907/08 season. At that time, FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol dominated the league like monopolists. FC Espanya de Barcelona managed to challenge this dominance. During the 1912/13 season there was a schism in the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the championship was split into the Campionat de Catalunya and the Copa del Rey . FC Espanya won the championship and qualified for the 1913 Copa del Rey . After they beat Real Vigo Sporting they lost 1-0 to the eventual winner Racing de Irún in the semi-finals. 1914 was the most successful year in the club's history. They won the Campionat de Catalunya and reached the final of the Copa del Rey in 1914 where they lost 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao . The Coupe de Pyrenées was also won. This was a competition between teams from southern France ( Languedoc , Le Midi , Aquitaine ) and northern Spain ( Catalonia and the Basque Country ). In 1917 FC Espanya won the third league title.

Decline in the 1920s

In the following years the club was in decline and in the lower table regions of the category A of the Catalan league. Here they fought against relegation. In 1922 they were first in the second division, but the promotion failed because of the relegation against RCD Espanyol .

Gràcia FC

In 1923, FC Espanya changed its name to Gràcia FC and took part in Category A under this name (from 1924). In 1928 they were relegated from this league. After the re-emergence it came to the merger with CE Europa 1931. The new club was called Catalunya FC .

After financial insolvency, he was forced to relegate to the third division .
