The FFH area Bus del Diaol (dialect for devil's hole ) is a NATURA 2000 protected area in the Italian province of Trento . The approximately 1 hectare reserve covers also known as Grotta di Patone known karst cave at the foot of Monte Stivo . The cave entrance is at a height of 250 m slm on the orographic left side of the valley of the same name through which the Sarca flows, northwest of the center of Arco . The cave has been designated as a protected area since 1995 and has been as such since 2013Parco Fluviale della Sarca managed.

meaning

The cave, which is several hundred meters long and runs almost horizontally without major differences in height, was washed out by an underground watercourse that came to the surface at the cave exit. The cave is the habitat of Fledertieren from the family of the horseshoe bats , of which three of five common European species occur in the cave and there next to some rodent wintering species.

Hazards and protective measures

The FFH area of Bus del Diaol must be protected from human disturbance by allowing access to the cave for scientific purposes only. For this purpose, the entrance is to be sealed off in such a way that the passage for the species occurring in the cave is guaranteed. At the same time, a cordon prevents the cave from being polluted by garbage left behind. The presence and existence of the protected species must also be checked regularly through controls. Furthermore, it must be ensured that the cave climate is not changed, for example by taking water above the cave.
