Fábio Aurélio Rodrigues (born September 24, 1979 in São Carlos , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian soccer player .
Career
Fabio Aurelio played in the first team at his youth club São Paulo from 1997. After the Olympic Games in 2000 , the defender moved to Spain for Valencia CF and signed a contract for six years. In the 2001/02 season he won the Spanish championship title with Valencia and was thus able to celebrate his first major success. The 2003/04 season was also a very successful season for his club. However, Fabio Aurelio had to take a break for the entire season due to a broken leg and only made two appearances each in the Primera División and in the UEFA Cup .
In the following season he coped with his injury and was able to look back on more appearances for the Spanish champions. In the 2005/06 season he played in 24 of the 38 league games and scored two goals. Also in the UI Cup 2006 Aurelio was part of the team at Valencia CF, but they lost in the final against Hamburger SV .
Fabio Aurelio has an Italian passport. This was the basis for allowing his club to play as an EU citizen in the Spanish league.
From 2006 to 2010 Fabio Aurelio played after a free transfer at Liverpool FC , where he again worked under Rafael Benítez , his former successful coach at Valencia CF. According to Aurelio, this was the main reason for his move to the then English record champions.
On May 25, Liverpool announced that there was no agreement on a contract extension. Thus Aurélio left the club in the summer. However, on July 31, Liverpool announced the return of the defender, who signed a two-year contract.
On May 24, 2012, the Brazilian first division club Grêmio Porto Alegre announced that Aurélio had signed a contract until December 31, 2013. There he works with Vanderlei Luxemburgo , his coach in various Brazilian youth teams.

Fabio Aurelio played in numerous U-17, U-20 and U-23 games in Brazil. He took part in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney with his home country , where he scored a goal in the first game against Slovakia . He played other games at the Olympic Games against South Africa , Japan and Cameroon .
