Fabio Fabiani (born October 13, 1974 in Ravenna ) is an Italian racing driver . He took part in some races of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) from 2009 to 2011 .

Career

Fabiani began his motorsport career in motorcycle racing in 1994 . In 2005 he switched to automobile sport and was initially active in smaller racing series. In 2007 he started in the European Touring Car Cup (ETC Cup) and finished sixth in the Super Production classification . In 2008 he took part in the ETC Cup again and won the championship title in the Super Production category.

In 2009 Fabiani took part in two World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races for Scuderia Proteam Motorsport in a BMW 320si . With a 17th place as the best result, he remained without points. In 2010 Fabiani competed in a total of six WTCC races for Scuderia Proteam Motorsport. With 15th place as the best result, he finished his second WTCC season again without points. In 2011 Fabiani again took part in several WTCC races for Proteam Motorsport. He continues to drive a BMW 320si that was still equipped with the old 2-liter naturally aspirated engine. He was thus entitled to points for the internal Jay-Ten Trophy , in which he even managed four class wins due to lack of competition. He achieved two of these victories as the only starter in this classification. However, Fabiani usually followed the field and was regularly noticed by spins . As a result, he earned his reputation as the unofficial "turner king" of the WTCC. Although he often failed to achieve a lap time within the 107 percent rule in qualifying , the race management let him start the races for a long time. After he failed again at the 107 percent rule in Suzuka in 2011 , the race management took action for the first time and did not let him take part in the races. He then lost his cockpit at Proteam Motorsport. Fabiani finally took part in another WTCC event for Engstler Motorsport . He managed to get enough points in the Jay-Ten Trophy to win the ranking. Fabiani benefited from the fact that most of the regular drivers no longer drove with an old engine after the third race weekend and that in the second half of the season he only had drivers who took part in a maximum of two events as opponents in this classification. In the world championship, Fabiani, who did not appear in two events, was the best result with a 13th place without points.
