Bioinformatics specialist

Bioinformatics specialist is the TÜV -certified completion of advanced training for laboratory workers. The aim of the advanced training is to learn how to work with computers in the field of life sciences , such as handling life science databases and sequence analysis programs.

education

General

The training to become a specialist in bioinformatics is currently only offered in Germany in the "Glass Laboratory" in cooperation with TÜV Rheinland . The duration of the training is two weeks, in which 100 lessons are completed.

target group

The target group of the training includes technical employees and laboratory technicians who have completed their vocational training as well as employees from biological and life science institutions.

Training content

The training includes theoretical backgrounds as a prerequisite for independent bioscientific research, as well as the practical handling of relevant databases, programs and web applications. The individual learning contents are:

• Internet search aids and optimal search strategies
• Bioinformatics-relevant basics of molecular and cell biology
• Life science databases - structure, content and research
• Sequence Similarity Search - BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool)
• DNA sequence analysis online, primer design, multiple alignments
• Genome mapping and the use of genome browsers
• Research of DNA polymorphisms
• Processing of data from gene expression analysis
• Protein sequence analysis tools: primary structure , secondary structure analyzes, post-translational modifications
• Protein observation with 3D software
• New trends in bioinformatics
• Dealing with online resources in English

Training degree

The prerequisite for the TÜV qualification is participation in the course with less than 20 absent hours, as well as passing a written and oral exam. The inspection takes place in front of the central personnel certification department of TÜV Rheinland.
