Fado, História d'uma Cantadeira ( Eng .: Fado, story of a singer) is a Portuguese Fado music film from 1947.

action

Ana Maria, a simple singer from the neighborhood of the Alfama district, is discovered and becomes a successful international star. Despite a dispute after a tragic event in the neighborhood, she does not forget her love for Júlio, her guitarist from the neighborhood. After all sorts of confusions in the lives of the two and shortly after Julio's decision to embark on the African colonies of Portugal , they meet again.

reception

The film is one of the successful works of Portuguese cinema of the 1930s and 40s. In particular, the popular singer Amália Rodrigues and the well-known actor Virgílio Teixeira , at the side of the popular comedy actors António Silva and Vasco Santana , ensured a large audience, which was also lured with typical Portuguese motifs of the scene decoration and the choice of music. The script stayed within the limits of the usual love films, and suggested a biographical proximity to the actual person of the main actress, who in the film, as in real life, became an internationally celebrated star singer from the simplest of circumstances. Amália Rodrigues was able to improve her acting skills here, and songs from the film gained some popularity.
