Virgílio Teixeira

Virgílio Gomes Delgado Teixeira (born October 26, 1917 in Funchal , † December 5, 2010 ibid) was a Portuguese actor .

Life

Teixeira devoted himself initially some sports (tennis, swimming and soccer) before 1943 in O Costa do Castelo by Arthur Duarte made his debut as an actor. Two years later he played his first leading role and quickly became a matineeeidol in Portugal, which was not hidden from Spanish and American producers. In addition to several films for the considerably larger market there, he also made the leap to Hollywood for a few roles . In 1967 he ended his screen career and went to television , where he impersonated a total of around 150 roles. He played one of the leading roles in the Portuguese telenovela Chuva na Areia (Rain on the Sand) of the RTP 1984/85. His film balance, which was resumed in 1984, is also impressive, with a list of 90 cinema productions.

In contrast to most of his fellow actors, Teixeira had no relation to the theater and only played in two plays ( O Bem Amado and Mary-Mary at the Teatro Avenida in Lisbon , 1964).

Teixeira worked for the PSD party in his hometown and region in some offices for cultural issues.
