Marcello Baldi (born August 1, 1923 in Telve , Valsugana , † July 22, 2008 in Rome ) was an Italian film director .

Life

Baldi dropped out of literary studies to work in film as an assistant to documentary filmmakers Antonio Covi and Vincenzo Sorelli . At the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia he shot as assistant director Romolo Marcellinis about the Vatican and Castelgandolfo; shortly after the war he was responsible for Guerra alla guerra , for which he shot some scenes himself and made the assembly. Until 1954 he made numerous short documentaries and was employed as an assistant director for feature films, often with Lionello De Felice . His first feature-length film was released that year (about the ascent of K2 ), which he made with alpinist Mario Fantin . In 1957 the Spanish feature film co-production La morte ha viaggiato con me was released in two language versions, with Baldi responsible for the Italian. After a mythological film and a crime thriller, Baldi turned to filming biblical material; first for the cinema, then (as medium-length films) for the video market. Since 1977 he has mainly worked for television, where he later achieved success in 1972 with Le evasioni celebri: Benvenuto Cellini .

For the spy film Inferno a Caracas , he used the pseudonym Billy Marshall in 1966 . The 16th Lessinia Film Festival paid tribute to Baldi's work.
