Fahd Jassim al-Freij ( Arabic فهد جاسم الفريج Fahd Jassim al-Furaidsch , * 1. January 1950 in Rahdschan in Hama , Syria ) was defense minister of Syria during the Syrian civil war from June 2012 to January 2018. Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Chief of Staff and was after the death of his predecessor Dawoud Rajiha by an assassination minister of defense.

Military career

Al-Freij joined the Syrian Arab Army in 1968 . He attended the officers' school and graduated on January 1, 1971 as a lieutenant . Little is known about his future career outside of Syria. On July 1, 2001 he was promoted to lieutenant general, since July 1, 2009 al-Freij has been general . On August 10, 2011, he was appointed chief of staff. Overflow officers of the Syrian army reported in December 2011, al-Freidsch did before his appointment as chief of staff of special forces of the army in the regions Daraa , Idlib commanded and Hama to crush to the uprising.

Private life

Fahd Jassim al-Freij is married and has three children.
