Fairmont Hot Springs is a settlement in the southeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The community is located near the border with the province of Alberta and is administratively not independent ( English unincorporated community ).

Geographical location

Fairmont Hot Springs is located in the Columbia Valley between the Purcell Mountains and the Rocky Mountains . The community is located on Highway 93 and Highway 95 , which are here on a common route. The settlement is 108 kilometers north of Cranbrook and 141 kilometers south of Golden .

Demographics

The 2011 census showed that the settlement had a population of 476. The population has shrunk by 5.0% compared to the last census in 2006, while the population in the province of British Columbia grew by 7.0% at the same time. The median age of the residents is 53.3 years, while it is 41.9 years in the province.

Fairmont Hot Springs Airport

The place has an airport, the Fairmont Hot Springs Airport, which is at an altitude of 810 meters above sea level.

The resort's mineral hot springs - hence the name - are the largest natural springs in all of Canada.

Fairmont Hot Springs has several golf courses and a ski area.

On July 15, 2012, the place was hit by a mudslide. Water had built up that could not be drained quickly enough by the small stream that runs through Fairmont Hot Springs.
