Fairview is a small town in Northern Alberta in the heart of the Peace River Country . It is 82 km southwest of Peace River and 115 km north of Grande Prairie at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 64A. The Town of Fairview is governed by a mayor and six councilors.

Fairview has a humid continental climate (Köppen climate classification Dfb). The annual average temperature is 2.5 degrees. The warmest month is on average July with an average temperature of 16.7 degrees. The coolest month on average is January with an average temperature of −11.4 degrees.

history

In 1928 the railroad stretched west from Whitelaw through the Beaver Indian Reserve over a stubble field on which the Hamlet of Fairview was built. Waterhole Township, five miles south, was runners and carts and relocated to the site. The first train rolled into Fairview on November 2, 1928. Hamlet Fairview was incorporated as a village on April 22, 1929. In 1949 the village was converted into a small town.

In the 2016 census conducted by Statistics Canada , the city of Fairview had a population of 2,998 in a total of 1,363 private residences, a change of -5.2% from 2011 when the population was 3,162. With a land area of ​​11.36 km², it had a population density of 263.9 per km² in 2016.
