The Falkenberger Chaussee is an approximately two and a half kilometers long, four-lane street in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg in the districts of Alt- and Neu-Hohenschönhausen . The street has been named after the early 19th century. It goes back to the former village and today's Berlin district of Falkenberg .

Course and history

At its western end, it turns into Hansastraße at the Darßer Straße intersection . From this intersection it runs in a north-easterly direction over Prerower Platz. In the further course it crosses the Berlin outer ring , where the Hohenschönhausen train station is located. At its eastern end, it narrows down to one lane in each direction of travel and turns into Falkenberger Dorfstrasse.

The street became important when the government of the GDR decided to build another large residential area on the meadows of the surrounding villages of Wartenberg , Falkenberg, Malchow and Hohenschönhausen . As a result, the road had to be widened on the one hand and tracks had to be laid for a new tram on the other . These lie on almost the entire route of the road. At the east end of the Chaussee there is a turning loop and the final stop for the trains.

Buildings and a cultural monument

milestone

Special structures on the street are the Linden Center , a CineMotion cinema and the Wartenberg Church , built in the 1990s . Particularly noteworthy is the Prussian milestone preserved here with the inscription "One mile to Berlin". The round base stone stood on the edge of Falkenberger Straße 83 from 1813 until its restoration in 1991. In January 2011, the Lichtenberg District Office named it “Monument of the Month”.
