The station is located in the center of the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district at the intersection of the Berlin outer ring and Falkenberger Chaussee . The road crosses the route with three flyovers, of which the northern and southern one is used for private transport. The middle overpass is used by buses and trams .

The S-Bahn station located on the route VzG 6012, of Berlin Springpfuhl to Berlin-Wartenberg runs, the S-Bahn Wartenberg itself is a station part of the S-Bahn station Hohenschönhausen. The station has two continuous main tracks , which are connected by a trapezoid of switches between Hohenschönhausen and Wartenberg. There are a total of five main signals in the station , one entry and one exit signal and three intermediate signals . The Ks signals are operated from the Biesdorfer Kreuz electronic signal box with an operator station in the Halensee operations center. The electromechanical interlocking Hsh (type E 12/78) at the north end of the S-Bahn platform took over the operation until November 2019 . The S-Bahn station is equipped with a 103 centimeter high and 163 meter long central platform, there are accesses on both sides of Falkenberger Chaussee as well as to the tram and bus stop in the middle. The northern entrance has a ramp .

The Berlin-Hohenschönhausen operating point consists of the stop on VzG route 6067 ( Berlin Biesdorfer Kreuz Nord  - Abzw Berlin-Karow Ost ) and a branch off to the south. At the junction, the VzG route 6160 (Berlin-Hohenschönhausen - Biesdorfer Kreuz Nord) running parallel to the outer ring, on which the Berlin Nordost train station is located. The block signals of the junction are remotely activated by the Bik relay interlocking (type GS II Sp64b) at the Biesdorfer Kreuz, the line in the Hohenschönhausen area is equipped with the AB70 automatic line block. The regional train station is equipped with two side platforms, both 76 centimeters high and about 211 meters long. The southern access is via stairs, the northern via two lifts . The western platform in the direction of Berlin-Lichtenberg also has level access to Wartenberger Strasse.

history

Regional train station Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, 2014

On December 20, 1984 , the Deutsche Reichsbahn put the first section of the S-Bahn from Springpfuhl to Hohenschönhausen into operation to connect the new Hohenschönhausen II development area, which is now the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district, built in the mid-1980s . The operation was initially only single-track. One year later, the extension to Wartenberg and the start of double-track operation followed. The Hsh signal box also went into operation with the extension. The regional platforms were in operation from April 14, 1986. They were later to be replaced by a long-distance and S-Bahn stop in Malchow on Bundesstraße 2 . The western platform for trips to Berlin-Lichtenberg was therefore only given level access to Wartenberger Straße, while the eastern platform was connected to Falkenberger Chaussee. Since the GDR's housing construction program was abandoned after the political change , the project was not implemented. In 1998 the regional train station was completely renovated and renewed; the western platform was given access to Falkenberger Chaussee, on the north side two lifts for barrier-free access went into operation. From 2002 to 2006, Hohenschönhausen was also a stop for several lines of the private long-distance train brand InterConnex .
