Falkenburg (Weimar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lustschloss Zitadelle Falkenburg once stood in Weimar , Thuringia.

location

The Falkenburg was halfway between the residential palace and the Belvedere pleasure palace .

history

Duke Ernst August I of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach had the complex built in 1732 after the foundation of the Order of the White Falcon . In 1750 this stately building was already dilapidated because the duke had found a more suitable location in Dornburg / Saale .

The castle in Weimar was destroyed in 1756 on the orders of King Friedrich II of Prussia in the Seven Years' War . Since the citadel could not fulfill a military function due to its location, the main building only served representative purposes until it was demolished.
