The family bath Floriansmühle was a river bath in Munich 's Freimann district . It was located on the Mühlbach , which merges into the Garching Mühlbach , at today's Floriansmühlstrasse 23, near the Bavarian broadcasting facilities .

history

The bath was opened in 1932 by Karl Kaltenbach , a former Olympic participant, and his wife Anna, who were then living in the Floriansmühle . Her daughter and husband Artur Doppelhamer later took over the bathroom. After the site was sold to Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank (today HypoVereinsbank ), the now unprofitable pool was closed in 1988. The overgrown facility is still preserved, but not accessible. Efforts to reopen it were unsuccessful. Partial residential development by Bayerische Hausbau , to which the site was sold, is planned, while a public park is planned east of the canal (along Sondermeierstrasse).

Facility

In addition to the rather cold canal (maximum 21 ° C) through which the Mühlbach flows and fed by the Schwabinger Bach , there was the large concrete pool that was overgrown today and a non-swimmer pool. In the kiosk the Doppelhamer family sold refreshments and a. homemade apple strudel.

Trivia

  • The Floriansmühlbad was, also due to its proximity to the Freimanner Studios of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, a popular meeting place. "The Schwabing celebrities met at the edge of the pool, where director Wolfgang Petersen shot scenes for the ' neverending story ' ...".
  • In the novel Mein Sommer with Anja by the actor Steffen Schroeder , published by Rowohlt in 2020 , the Flussbad plays an important role. In the 80s, Schroeder spent the summers of his childhood mainly in this swimming pool.
