Fangfangia spinicleithralis is a small- sized freshwater fish from the order of the carp-like species that is endemic to the peaty swamps in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Tengah on Borneo . The genus name Fangfangia was given in honor of the Chinese ichthyologist Fang Fang Kullander ,who died in 2010, the species epithet spinicleithralis refers to the pointed Cleithrum of the species.
features
Fangfangia spinicleithralis is an elongated carp fish with a round to slightly oval cross section. The type specimens of the species had lengths of 13.7 to 20.8 mm. The body height is one fifth to one seventh of the standard length. The mouth is terminal, barbels are missing. Fangfangia spinicleithralis differs from all other carp fish by the front end of the left Cleithrum (a pair of cover bones in the shoulder girdle ), which ends in a strong, forward-pointing tip, and the tip at the rear end of the Cleithrum. Other features include the absence of scales with the exception of six or seven pore-provided scales on the lateral line , the multi-pointed pharynx , the front edge of the first dorsal fin ray sawn in the lower section , the greatly enlarged central fin support of the anal fin and the high number on tributary rays on the caudal fin (14–18 dorsal , 11–15 ventral ).
- Fin formula : dorsal ii-iii / 5-6 / i; Anal iii / 6; Pectorals 9-10; Ventral i / 5; Caudal 10 + 9 main rays.
The fish are colored transparent light yellow and show no pattern.
Systematics
Fangfangia spinicleithralis was introduced in 2011 by the Swiss ichthyologist Maurice Kottelat and two colleagues and is the only species of the genus Fangfangia which is monotypical . The database Fishbase the species is the Bärblingen assigned (Danioninae) in the Catalog of Fishes, which is updated monthly, they belong together with the equally diminutive species sundadanio family Sundadanionidae after sundadanio was named.
