Fanny Inama von Sternegg (born July 2, 1870 in Innsbruck - Wilten ; † November 9, 1928 there ; with all first names Franziska Maria Emilie Amalie Inama-Sternegg ) was an Austrian portrait, still life and history painter.

Life

Fanny Inama von Sternegg comes from the Inama family , whose roots are in the Non Valley ( Welschtirol ), and was the daughter of the statistician Theodor Inama von Sternegg (1843–1908). From 1887 to 1892 she studied history and portrait painting in Vienna with Rudolf Geyling and in Munich with J. Leonhardt . Later she studied with Alois Schornböck (Vienna), Walter Thor and Walther Firle , on whose influence she increasingly turned to portraits of children.

From 1905, Fanny Inama von Sternegg enjoyed success as a freelance artist with her portraits of women and children. She was a member of the Tyrolean Artists Association and ran her own painting school. Exhibitions in the Künstlerbund Innsbruck (1906, 1916), the Kunsthaus Wien and the Kunstverein Munich spread her reputation. In 1904 she took part in the World's Fair in St. Louis and was awarded a bronze medal.

Because of her human qualities, she was also called the "Angel of Lichtenwerth " after the family seat near Brixlegg .
