Alois Schornböck

Alois Schornböck (born May 29, 1863 in Hernals near Vienna , † August 9, 1926 in St. Christophen ) was an Austrian painter .

education

Schornböck was the son of a military accountant. He first attended lower secondary school. From 1879 to 1884 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl . On October 24, 1884 he enrolled in the class of antiquities at the Academy in Munich with Ludwig von Löfftz , where he continued his studies until 1891. After a trip to Italy he returned to Vienna in 1892.

Schornböck mainly painted portraits. His clients were mostly aristocrats and members of the imperial family.

As early as 1892 he regularly took part in the annual exhibition of the cooperative of visual artists in Vienna, the Künstlerhaus Wien . In 1902 and 1907 he tried in vain to become a member of the artists' cooperative. In 1917 he received the title of professor .

In the last years of the monarchy he was one of the most sought-after portrait painters in Vienna.
