Fantasy was an American psychedelic - and progressive rock - band , in 1970 with the song Stoned Cowboy had their only hit.
Band history
The group was founded in 1967 in Miami , Florida by five teenagers . The original cast included Billy Robbins ( vocals ), Bob Robbins ( bass ), Jim DeMeo ( guitar ), Mario Russo ( keyboards ) and Greg Kimple ( drums ). Through their performances, the band gained a growing fan base. Then Fantasy got a contract as a house band at "Thee Image", a very popular venue at the time, and played there every weekend from 1968 on. Musically, the formation opened up to artists such as Led Zeppelin , Frank Zappa and Steppenwolf during this time .
Then it came to a disaster for Fantasy: The charismatic front man and singer Billy Robbins disappeared and was eventually found dead. The group then looked for a new singer and chose Lydia Janene Miller aka Jamene Miller, a talented 16-year-old singer with a rough, powerful voice in the tradition of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick .
A short time later, Fantasy signed a recording contract with Liberty Records and released the album named after the band in 1970 . The record entered the US charts in August and reached number 194. The release Stoned Cowboy became a hit in September and rose to number 77 on the singles charts . Miller left the band and failed trying to start a solo career. The remaining band members appeared from then on as Year One. For some appearances there was a reunion Fantasys in the 1970s.
Lydia Jamene Miller died on September 27, 2008 due to an alcohol-related illness. She was 55 years old.
