Far de Capdepera in literature
The German writer Karl Otten , who lived in Cala Rajada from 1933 to 1936, wrote the short story The Lighthouse , which refers to the lighthouse , albeit with the place name Pueblo instead of Cala Rajada . The story describes the living conditions of the lighthouse keeper Miguel and his wife Conchita and their six children, and the lighthouse is the only attraction in Cala Rajada. The local population is amazed at the enthusiasm of foreign guests for the tower and its view. The short story ultimately deals with the beginning of tourism in the region. The lighthouse keeper earns extra income by carrying tourists up the steep stairs of the tower. In the story, a tourist has an accident in the tower who is accidentally pulled up by the lighthouse keeper with a weight for the operation of the tower. An American tourist is pushed down a cliff by the lover of the lighthouse keeper's wife. However, both casualties survive.
