History and architecture
The Far des Cap Blanc was designed by Emili Pou and put into operation on August 31, 1863. The U-shaped building has a white-painted cylindrical tower with a lantern and a gallery . The lantern originally contained a VI mirror lens. Order for lighthouses and a lamp powered by olive oil. In 1883 the system switched to paraffin and in 1917 an acetylene lighting system was installed that worked with 3 + 2 interruptions.
In 1964 the tower got an automatic system developed by Gustaf Dalén with the current identifier, after the lantern had been rebuilt by the company Racional SA in 1962 . In 1970 acetylene was switched to an electrical system and a fourth order mirror lens from the Paris company Henri Lepaute was installed, which was originally intended for the Far d'Artrutx in Menorca . Despite its automatic system, the tower remained inhabited until 1994.
In 1878 a ship ran aground near the Far des Cap Blanc . The lighthouse keeper lowered himself 83 meters down the cliff with ropes and was able to rescue the four crew members from the wreck.
