The Faro de Buenavista is a lighthouse in the northwest of the Canary Island of Tenerife . It stands 2.5 km northeast of the town of Buenavista del Norte and is one of two lighthouses in this municipality. The other is the Faro de Punta de Teno at the westernmost point of Tenerife. The Faro de Buenavista is registered under the international number D-2831.8 and the national number 12925 and has a range of 20  nautical miles .

History and architecture

According to the plan drawn up in the second half of the 1980s to expand the lighting on the Canarian coast, the 18 existing lighthouses were supplemented by nine more in the 1990s. On the north coast of Tenerife, three new towers were built at the Punta del Hidalgo , in Puerto de la Cruz and at Buenavista del Norte on behalf of the Santa Cruz port authority . The Faro de Buenavista was built in 1990/91, but was not put into operation until 1997.

The modern lighthouse stands on the edge of a flat coastal plain that is covered by banana plantations. It consists of a square white concrete tower on a one-storey building, on the side of which faces the sea, a staircase with a red railing winds up on a core that is also white. The rotating optics made up of three groups of four sealed beam lamps are located above these stairs.

The lighthouse is operated automatically and is not open to the public.
