The Faro de Puerto de la Cruz is a lighthouse in the north of the Canary Island of Tenerife . It is located in the city of Puerto de la Cruz , the main tourist center in the north of the island. The lighthouse is registered under the international number D-2833 and the national number 12934 and has a range of 16  nautical miles .

History and architecture

According to the plan drawn up in the second half of the 1980s to expand the lighting on the Canarian coast, the 18 existing lighthouses were supplemented by nine more in the 1990s. On the north coast of Tenerife, three new towers were built at the Punta del Hidalgo , in Puerto de la Cruz and at Buenavista del Norte on behalf of the Santa Cruz port authority . The Faro de Puerto de la Cruz was put into operation in 1995.

The modern building stands about 400 meters west of the port entrance on an extensive parking lot directly on the coast. A six-story tower with a square cross-section, which is designed as a dark brown steel construction, rises on a one-story farm building . Only the sides of the first and sixth floors are faced. An open white staircase winds up from a red core . The optics are located on the roof terrace of the building, which is reminiscent of a modern bell tower , which is surrounded by a railing .

The lighthouse is operated automatically and is not open to the public.
