The Faro de José Ignacio is a lighthouse ( Faro in Spanish ) in Uruguay . It is in José Ignacio , a fishing and seaside resort in the Maldonado department .

description

The building was erected on a rocky outcrop and consists of a 25 meter high round tower made of clinker bricks and a single-storey residential building for the beacon keepers . The beacon was put into operation in 1877. It has a fire height of 32 meters and shows a white flash as an identifier with a return of 2 seconds (Fl.W.2s). The range is 15 nautical miles.

The Faro de José Ignacio is a national monument ( Spanish Monumento de Uruguay ) and is still manned. The Faro de Cabo Polonio was built in 1881 according to the same plans.
