The Farquhar Group is a group of islands that belongs to the Republic of the Seychelles . It is located in the Indian Ocean about 700 km southwest of the largest island Mahé and is one of the so-called Outer Islands within the Seychelles .
The archipelago was discovered as early as 1501 by the Portuguese navigator João da Nova .
The group consists of two atolls , the Farquhar Atoll in the south and the Providence Atoll in the north. West of the Providence Atoll is the isolated island of St. Pierre . The Wizard Reef , which is just below the sea surface, also belongs to the group . The total land area of all the islands of the Farquhar Group is about 10 km², but the area including the lagoons is 370 km².
There is a small settlement each on Providence and Farquhar , St. Pierre is uninhabited.
