The DVBViewer is a proprietary , commercial software , all basic functions to receive and display digital television offers and radio reception. Additional functions can be retrofitted using plug-ins .
The software is only available for download from the Internet in order to keep distribution costs low.
The most important customer and buyer of licenses is the German manufacturer of digital television receivers, TechniSat . He adds the software to his products as DVBViewer Technisat Edition .
According to the developer, DVBViewer was the first application for the PC that recognized and played back H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC transmissions both live and as recordings.

The different versions of DVBViewer
DVBViewer is sold in three versions, which differ in their range of functions:
- DVBViewer Pro is the full commercial version with unrestricted functionality. In addition to the actual software, after purchasing a license you also get access to the members area of the homepage. There you can download plug-ins , development resources, beta versions , skins and additional useful utilities (tools).
- DVBViewer GE (Griga Edition) is a kind of test version, maintained by a volunteer developer with the nickname Griga. In this application based on DVBViewer Pro, he tests new functions for later recording in DVBViewer Pro.
- DVBViewer TE (Technisat Edition) is a free version for B2C2 chipset-based cards with limited functions to TV and radio playback and recording and can also be obtained via the Internet.
- DVBViewer Terratec Edition is a free version for digital maps from TERRATEC Electronic GmbH, with its functions limited to TV and radio playback and recording, and can be obtained free of charge on the Internet.
- DVBViewer Mini : Available under various names for manufacturers / dealers TechniSat , TechnoTrend , Digital Everywhere, DVBShop, RF Central and X3M. The further developed successor to the DVBViewer TE Edition is also a free version for B2C2 chipset-based cards that is limited in its functions to TV and radio playback and recording and is usually available bundled with the products of the respective manufacturer / retailer.
- TT-Viewer is a free version for DVB cards from the manufacturer TechnoTrend, limited in its functions to TV and radio playback and recording, and can be obtained free of charge from the manufacturer's website.
- DVBViewer Light is a free variant for the playback of Sat-IP .
TransEdit and TransEdit MMC
TransEdit is a scanner for DVB-S (2), DVB-T and DVB-C which , as an additional program for the DVBViewer Pro / GE, offers a channel search with significantly expanded options. TransEdit supports TechniSat cards (SkyStar2, AirStar2, CableStar2) as well as all devices with BDA drivers ( Broadcast Driver Architecture ). In addition to the extended station search, the following essential functions belong to TransEdit:
- Transponder list editor - allows the management, editing and updating of the transponder lists
- Analyzer - enables a deep insight into the DVB data stream that is sent via transponders
- Preview - Preview a simple function for instant playback of video - and audio - streams
TransEdit MMC is the free, functionally limited version of TransEdit, which is available on the DVBViewer website. The main purpose is to check whether the DVBViewer works in conjunction with a certain device.
