Faruk Barlas (* 1916 in Istanbul ; † January 9, 1994 ibid) was a Turkish football player , referee and official. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and as its own generation, he is very strongly associated with this club and referred to by club and fan pages as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. With his long-time team-mate Adnan İncimen , he formed part of the Galatasaray defense for many years. Due to their good defensive work, both received the nickname Majino Hattı , Turkish for Maginot Line, based on the successful French defense system Maginot Line. Barlas himself was called Majino or Majino Faruk . In the 1960s he worked as a functionary for the Turkish Football Association.
Player career
society
Barlas attended the Galatasaray high school and, unlike his schoolmates, did not play in the youth department of the traditional Galatasaray Istanbul club , which was founded in 1905 by students from the Galatasaray high school, but in the youth department of arch-rival Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Word of his footballing talent got around in the Galatasaray community, so that he was accepted into the squad of the Galatasaray football team at the age of 19 in the 1932/33 season . At the time of his entry into the professional squad, his club played in the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ). Since there was no international professional league in Turkey at that time, there were regional leagues instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. Despite his young age, he was used in five league games.
For Galatasaray Barlas only played until the summer of 1933. After a controversy within the club in 1933, about half of the team's squad left the club and founded the rival club Güneş SK . After this split, Galatasarays team lost the connection to the top of the table and remained until the 1948/49 season without a title win in the Istanbul championship. Only in the season could the title be won in the Milli Küme , a kind of championship tournament in which the teams from the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated.
Barlas belonged to the faction that left Galatasaray after the dispute and gathered under the new club Güneş SK. At Güneş, Barlas quickly established himself as a regular player. With this club he finished the 1936/37 season behind Fenerbahçe and before Galatasaray as runner-up. Barlas completed all league games of his team this season as a performance player. In the 1937/38 season, Barlas' team managed to win the Istanbul League title. In addition to the Istanbul championship, the title in the Milli Küme was won this season , a kind of championship tournament in which the teams of the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated. As a result, Barlas' team won all of Turkey's major titles this season. In this championship season they inflicted one of the bitterest defeats in the club's history away from Galatasaray. So the club from which Güneş was founded and some founding members were expelled, was beaten 7-0 in the Milli Küme league game on March 20, 1938.
Güneş took part in the Istanbul League again after this championship season, but surprisingly broke up after the 4th matchday. This dissolution of the association was accompanied by a dispute settlement with Galatasaray. After this dissolution of the club, most of the squad rejoined Galatasaray, u. a. also Barlas. For Galatasaray he played until the summer of 1947. In terms of titles, Köprülü with Galatasaray won the Milli Küme championship in the 1938/39 season, and the İstanbul Kupası in the 1941/42 and 1942/43 seasons .
From 1947 to 1949 he played for İstanbulspor .
National team
Barlas began his national team career in 1931 with a use for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Yugoslav national team . With this encounter he completed his first and only international match.
