The Fasnet in Friedrichshafen (also: Fastnacht ) is celebrated according to Swabian-Alemannic tradition . Most of the customs concentrate on the so-called "high days" from Gumpy Thursday to Ash Wednesday . The largest fool's association in Friedrichshafen is the Seegockel fool's guild , which is part of the association for the care of the people of Friedrichshafen.

history

The first evidence for the celebration of a carnival custom comes from the year 1569. The head of the Hofen monastery, Rupert Reichlin von Meldeck, described a joke by the Buchhorn vineyards on the occasion in his notebook . From 1845 so-called carnival games are documented by the newspaper Seeblatt. In 1861 the first jester society, the Fischbacher "Bachfischer", appeared, which organized the first parade through Friedrichshafen. In the second half of the 19th century the carnival changed its structure. Especially fool societies like the “Narrhalla” and dance balls were in the foreground. Interrupted by the Second World War, the customs changed back to masked carnival, which is more likely to be found in the streets. In 1951 what is now the largest fool's guild, the NZ Seegockel was founded; further guilds of the districts followed. The Fischbacher Brunnisach Witches were last created in 2002.

regional customs

The "high days" of the Swabian-Alemannic carnival begin with Gumpigen Thursday. On this day, the guilds of fools go to the kindergartens and schools in Friedrichshafen with some music bands and finish their lessons there. This custom, which ends in events organized by the schools, is called school exemption. In addition, the fools storm the town hall and remove the mayor as a symbol of their assumption of power. After the tree of fools has been planted, the day ends with traditional shirt-glow parades and balls. On Saturday the big parade takes place in the city center, in which various groups of fools from the area and from all over Germany take part. In addition, the big citizens' ball is held in the Graf-Zeppelin-Haus in the evening. After a ball for the children on Tuesday, the carnival will end with the custom of “Gockel butcher”.

organization

The "Association for the care of the people of Friedrichshafen eV" is responsible for organizing the carnival in Friedrichshafen. He owns the Seegockel fool's guild, which is responsible for organizing the parades and the street carnival, the Elferrat, which plans the hall events in the Graf-Zeppelin-Haus , and the music associations Bürgergarde and Graf Zeppelin fanfares, which take care of the musical design of the events . In addition, the Seegockel fool's guild has formed the “Häfler Narrenzunft” (IGHN) community of interests since 1994, together with the fools' guilds of the districts of Ailingen , Berg , Ettenkirch , Fischbach , Kluftern , Lottenweiler and Raderach and the Bodenseenarren. It serves to arrange appointments and to plan joint events and also represents the guilds of fools vis-à-vis the city of Friedrichshafen.
