action

Law student Daniel and his girlfriend Laura are on vacation in Morocco. You rent a Land Rover Defender for a day trip into the desert. At a gas station they meet a dodgy stranger who offers to show them the desert. They refuse, continue their journey and spontaneously decide to deviate from the piste. After an act of love on a dune, their car doesn't start anymore and they try to get back to the slope on foot.

The silent stranger appears out of nowhere with his motorcycle and gets your vehicle going again. They follow him, but notice that, contrary to what he promised, he is not leading them back to the slopes. At the same time, tensions develop between Daniel and Laura. When Daniel wanders away from the vehicle after an argument, Laura offers herself to the stranger. Daniel, who comes back and feels what has happened, makes the stranger's motorcycle unfit to drive and drives away with Laura.

When the quarreling couple reaches an abandoned city, Laura runs away. Daniel tries to find them in the narrow streets, but instead comes across the stranger they left with no means of transport. Daniel attacks him with his knife, but is immediately disarmed. Just as the man picks up the knife, Laura joins them and knocks him down with a boulder. They leave the stranger and go back to their vehicle, which is some distance in front of the city. Laura suspects that she killed the man. Before they leave, however, the stranger comes up to them and collapses right in front of them.

Ultimately, the couple decides to take the seriously injured man with them in their vehicle. However, due to the threatening consequences for Laura, who attacked the stranger, Daniel decides to leave him lying in the desert and hand him over to fate. He drives back alone with Laura to the city where they started their journey.

When they arrive, both have a bad conscience and they drive back to the place where they left the stranger. However, it has disappeared. You only discover suspected camel tracks that lead back into the desert.

Reviews

“Psychodrama with thriller and horror elements that does not know how to dramatically use the 'desert' location and does not make the forlornness of its characters visually tangible. The desert primarily serves as an opulent backdrop for an unbelievable game, the participants of which never lose their grip on the ground. "

“Apart from the idiotic premise (hardly imaginable that people behave in such a stupid way) the drama develops in the second half, mainly thanks to the actors, a thoroughly gripping conflict about a triangular relationship, guided by trust and mistrust, fascination and disgust. However, director Simon Groß relied too much on the power of desert images, which he apparently forgot about the staging every now and then. "
