Fatmir Xhindi

Fatmir Faslli Xhindi (born April 1, 1960 in Fier , † May 2, 2009 in Roskovec ) was an Albanian politician ( PS ).

Since 1997, Xhindi sat for three legislative terms for the Partia Socialiste e Shqipërisë in the Albanian parliament . Party colleagues described him as responsible and serious . For the parliamentary election on June 28, 2009, the politician had applied again in his constituency.

Xhindi was shot six times by unknown perpetrators in front of his home in Roskovec on May 2, 2009. So far, the police investigations have been unsuccessful. President Bamir Topi and Prime Minister Sali Berisha condemned the attack and announced that they would be investigated as soon as possible. The attack took place one month after Albania joined NATO , one week after Albania's application for EU membership and just under two months before the parliamentary elections. It is the second murder of a politician in Albania since the end of communist rule in 1990. In 1998, Azem Hajdari , then a leading member of the Democratic Party of Albania , was shot.

Xhindi was married and had three children.
