Maluti-A-Phofung ( English Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district , Free State Province , South Africa. The administrative headquarters are in Phuthaditjhaba . Mayor is Mamotsheare Maria Lakaje-Mosia.
The community name is a compound term from the Sesotho words for the Drakensberg ( Maluti ) and for the mountain Sentinel (3165 m), which is called in Sesotho Phofung . It is located in the Mont-Aux-Sources area , but is the highest peak in the Qwaqwa region .
The local church was formed on December 5, 2000 as part of a nationwide municipal reform .

The first language was 81.7% Sesotho, 10.7% IsiZulu , 2% Afrikaans and 1.5% English.
