Faustcoven is a Black Doom band founded in Trondheim in 2002 .

history

Faustoven were founded in 2002 by Gunnar Hansen as a personal project to realize his subjective idea of mixing Black Metal with Doom Metal . He made the first demo recordings with a drum computer . Only after it came to a contract with Barbarian Wrath Records did he take on a drummer with Terje M. Kråbøl. In 2003 the debut The Halo of Burning Wings was released . Due to his move from Trondheim to Oslo , Hansen changed the drummer for the second official publication. Since the split - EP Koldbrann / Faustcoven which Faustcoven and Koldbrann for Cryptia Productions recordings took Johnny Tombthrasher of Ghoul Cult function. Hansen then formed various musicians into a live band. Meanwhile, Hansen had the opportunity to appear live, the band had no influence on the other releases of Faustcoven. The group performed for the first time at the Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen , which lasted several days, in 2009.

style

Gunnar Hansen names performers of Doom Metal as well as the first and second generation of Black Metal as the predominant influence. Including Black Sabbath , Witchfinder General , Pagan Altar , Saint Vitus , Pentagram and Candlemass , Venom , Hellhammer , Bathory , Darkthrone and Mercyful Fate . Hansen, who culturally ascribes himself more to Black than Doom Metal, chose “Black Sabbath and Candlemass that meet Venom, Hellhammer and Bathory” as a style description. ”Reviews also highlight the mixture of Doom and Black Metal. Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann confirms the influencing factors mentioned by Hansen in Rock Hard . Faustcoven therefore combine "early Black Sabbath and Bobby's favorite Pentagram with primitive Black Metal by Hellhammer, the" Morbid Tales "phase of Celtic Frost and the sluggish pieces and mid-tempo song parts of the first three Bathory albums." The Vönger website sees Faustcoven " in the tradition of bands like Carpathian Full Moon or Abysmal , ”with Hansen's project placing“ less emphasis on harmony and catchiness, but all the more on the most malicious appearance and atmosphere ”. The music consists of "heavy reef rolls and demonic, drooling, deeply distorted singing ". There are also parallels to the Norwegian school and "subtle keyboard choirs and confused, obscure guitar solos à la Black Sabbath" testify to Faustcoven's originality.
