Faustinopolis
Faustinopolis was an ancient city in the Asian region of Cappadocia near today's Başmakçı in the Ulukışla district of the Turkish province of Niğde . It was at the foot of the Taurus Mountains on the road from Tyana to the Cilician Gate .
The city went back to a village called Halala . It was raised to the rank of a Roman colonia under Marcus Aurelius , whose wife Faustina died there in 176. A temple dedicated to Faustina there was later rededicated to Elagabal . In late antiquity , Faustinopolis belonged to the province of Cappadocia Secunda. It was the seat of a bishop; The titular Faustinopolis of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to the diocese .
An ancient road led from Tyana , today's Kemerhisar , via Faustinopolis to the Cilician Gate . Faustinopolis was localized with the help of an inscription from the time of Gordian III. One of the ruins of the city is an acropolis .
