Fausto Zevi

Fausto Zevi (* 1938 ) is an Italian classical archaeologist .

Fausto Zevi is an academic student of Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli . He was Superintendent of Antiquities in the Ostia region , then of Rome . From 1977 to 1982 he was Superintendent of the Naples Region , succeeding Luigi D'Amore , and was responsible for the archaeological sites of Pompeii , Herculaneum , Oplontis , Boscoreale and Stabiae . He was followed in this position by Maria Giuseppina Cerulli-Irelli .

As a professor he taught at the University of Naples and most recently he held the chair of Greco-Roman archeology at the Roman University of La Sapienza .

Zevi is an internationally recognized specialist in the topography of ancient Rome, Pompeii and Ostias. In addition, he deals primarily with the Hellenistic influences on Roman culture and archaic Rome. He has published more than 200 writings. He is a member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei , a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and an honorary member of the British School at Rome .
