Fazer [ 'fɑtsɛr ] is a Finnish company whose name throughout Scandinavia , but also in the Baltic countries , Poland , Russia and the United Kingdom Well known for chocolate , candy bars , chocolates and other foods.

In Germany it is rather less known, by the company Brandt sold and is specialized in luxury chocolate shops or well-stocked supermarkets available. The brand was created in Helsinki at the end of the 19th century by the Swiss baker, confectioner and chocolatier Karl Fazer . During the Second World War , Fazer produced macaroni and biscuits for the Finnish army. From the 1950s the company operated several bread factories , and later also a mill . In the 1970s, it entered the flourishing catering business in Finland, including schools, companies and authorities, and operated and took over several canteens . The baked goods business, particularly in the rye bread market segment , was expanded. The traditional chocolate business became increasingly a marginal phenomenon within the Fazer group.

From the 1990s onwards, branches, mergers and the takeover of other companies came about. a. in Poland, Russia and Great Britain, as well as a chain of cafés.

Today, the Fazer Group, as Oy Karl Fazer Ab, is still a family business today , in the three business areas of catering ( Fazer Amica , mostly in Finland and Sweden), bakery business ( Fazer Bakeries , mostly in Finland and Russia) and sweets and gummy candies ( Candy King , mostly in Sweden and Norway). In 2008, Fazer employed over 15,800 people and had a turnover of 1,159 million euros.

The chocolate division merged in 2000 with the Swedish chocolate and confectionery manufacturer Cloetta to become Cloetta Fazer AB . The brand name and logo Fazer for the traditional chocolate products and the salmiakki were retained. On June 16, 2008 it was announced that the merger with Cloetta will be canceled and Fazer will once again be run as an independent Finnish family company.
