history

On October 30, 1873, the Hermannia fencing club was founded in Frankfurt am Main. Individual athletes in the club, including Emil Schön , Erwin Casmir , Julius Eisenecker and Erwin Kroggel , were soon among the top German fencers.

On December 24, 1951, the then Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, Walter Kolb , presented the Hermannia Fencing Club with the silver laurel leaf on behalf of Federal President Theodor Heuss in recognition of its services .

When, in the post-war period, centers of excellence such as Bonn, Heidenheim and later the federal and Olympic base at the Tauberbischofsheim Fecht Club became bigger and more successful and the sport of fencing was sponsored by the federal government, states and industry on an unprecedented scale, the balance of power shifted considerably To the disadvantage of traditional clubs like Hermannia. The fencing landscape changed significantly as a result; Fencers from different clubs in Frankfurt came together. On September 23, 1971, after almost 100 years, Hermannia was finally dissolved, and it became part of the Universitätsfechtclub Frankfurt eV.
