Felice Radicati

Felice Alessandro Radicati (* 1775 in Turin , † March 19, 1823 in Bologna ) was an Italian violinist and classical composer .

Life

Felice Radicati was a pupil of Gaetano Pugnani in his youth and entered the Turin court orchestra in 1793. After the court orchestra was dissolved under the French government, he became a concert violinist. Together with his wife, the well-known singer Teresa Bertinotti (1776-1854), he went on concert tours that took the couple through northern Italy, France, Germany, England, Portugal and Vienna. In Amsterdam and London she sang the title roles in the world premieres of the operas Coriolano (1809) and Fedra (1811). From 1815 Felice Radicati was a violin teacher at the Liceo Musicale in Bologna, concertmaster in the theater orchestra, conductor of the city orchestra and conductor at the Basilica of San Petronio . Radicati was considered a leading representative of the Italian violin school at the beginning of the 19th century. Giuseppe Manetti (1802-1858) was one of his students . Radicati died as a result of a traffic accident caused by shy horses.

Radicati composed eight stage works, which were only partially performed, and a few arietas. Most of all, however, he left instrumental music behind. According to his biographer Carlo Pancaldi in 1828, it was Radicati's endeavor to revive the Italian string quartet against the emerging success of the Viennese classical music .
